About CoxHealth

Accreditations

CoxHealth is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). CoxHealth’s physician and regional clinics are the only JCAHO-accredited clinics in southwest Missouri.

CoxHealth is recognized as a Children’s Miracle Network hospital for its extensive children’s services and dedication to Children’s Miracle Network.

Cox Rehabilitation Services are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

The School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Cox College of Nursing and Health Sciences has an initial five-year accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission for its associate of science in nursing program.

The Family Practice Residency Program is an accredited program that is affiliated with the University of Missouri-Columbia, offering residents a vast number of resources and a cooperative learning experience. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, through the Residency Review Committee for Family Practice, has granted CoxHealth Family Practice Residency Program continued full accreditation for the maximum allowable period of five years.

Hulston Cancer Center has been accredited since 1987 by the American College of Surgeons as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.

Cox Air Care is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transports Systems (CAMTS). The program was specifically commended for safety standards, maintenance support and the support of our facility, Cox South.
CAMTS accreditation recognizes quality, patient care and safety.

Radiology departments at Cox North, Cox South, Cox Walnut Lawn and Ferrell-Duncan Clinic are accredited for ultrasound by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Ozark Neuro Rehab is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for its brain injury outpatient rehab program.

Cox Stroke Center is a member of the National Stroke Association’s Stroke Network and received community education grants in 1999 and 2000 as part of the National Stroke Association Be Stroke Smart Community Education Initiative.

The Stroke Center is also one of the first in the nation to achieve primary stroke center disease-specific care certification from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

CoxHealth laboratories are accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. CMS regulates all laboratory testing, except research, performed on humans in the U.S. through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). The objective of the CLIA program is to ensure quality laboratory testing.

Cox HealthPlans is the first insurance company in Missouri to be owned and operated by a hospital.

Larry D. Wallis and Dr. Wolfe Gerecht were recognized at the 2002 Salute to Healthcare for their dedication to advancements in health care.

Burrell Behavioral Health received a grant from the Missouri Children’s Trust Fund for the “Partnerships in Parenting” project. The grant enables Burrell staff to provide education to families at the Springfield Women Infant and Children office. A grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety has allowed staff at Burrell Behavioral Health to assess factors in the area related to teen pregnancy, child abuse, school drop out rates, poor academic performance and problems associated with drugs and violence.

Cox Educational Services is recognized by the American Heart Association for being the first in Missouri to offer the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Experienced Provider Course.

The Cox Asthma Management Team received the Missouri Team Quality Award. This award is given by the Excellence in Missouri Foundation to organizations that demonstrate improved patient care and customer service.

Cox College of Nursing and Health Sciences awarded its first honorary bachelor of science in nursing degree to Cindy Allard, CoxHealth nursing retention specialist, in 2002.

Children's Miracle Network
Miracle Maker Award - 1999, 2001, 2002

2000 - Burrell Behavioral Health received the National Award for Excellence from the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare.

2000 - Burrell Behavioral Health received a three-year accreditation CARF accreditation, the highest that is awarded. CARF is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes quality rehabilitation services.

2001 - Dr. Todd Schaible, president and CEO of Burrell Behavioral Health, received the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence.

2002 - Burrell Behavioral Health was selected by the Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services for Children and Their Families Program, administered through the National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for a six-year, $9.3 million project. The project was applied for and awarded cooperatively through the Missouri Department of Mental Health. The focus of the project will be the community’s system of care for children, adolescents and families impacted by serious emotional disturbance. The Missouri Departments of Social Services and Education are also partners in this project.

CoxHealth Diabetes Center (2004) was awarded a three-year extension of its American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certification for its classes and programs.
