The original Medical Exploring Post in the USA!
Meetings
Explorers are required to attend monthly business meetings held
on the first Thursday of months Sept. - May (except January). Meetings are
conducted by Medical Explorer student leaders, and feature a variety of
health care professionals as guest speakers. The meetings begin at 7 p.m.
and are held in Hulston Cancer Center (corner of Bradford and National)
fourth floor meeting rooms, unless otherwise noted. Always be on time to rotations, meetings, community events, etc.
Please bring your time card and $3 monthly dues to each meeting. Monthly meetings
are mandatory in order to sign up for clinical rotations. When you sign up
for rotations, be sure to note the date, time and location. You will need to
contact your student group leader for questions or concerns regarding your
attendance.
Rotation Guidelines
If you cannot make a rotation, whether due to scheduling conflicts or
illness, please call the area in which you have signed up. Please
cancel your rotations by calling the appropriate hospital location (Cox
South 417/269-6000, Cox North 417/269-3000 or Cox Walnut Lawn
417/269-9800). Please ask the operator to connect you with the specific
area and ask to speak to the supervisor. Do not leave messages on
answering machines. You must speak to a person to verify your
cancellation.
If you are feeling sick, please call in to cancel your rotations.
Patients in our hospitals are highly susceptible to illnesses such as
colds, flu and bronchial infections and cannot be exposed to these
illnesses.
If you arrive for a scheduled rotation and the unit cannot use you, go
to the Nursing Administration office (At Cox South: first floor next to
Administration; at Cox North: take the Emerald Garden elevators to the 7th
floor). You will be reassigned to another unit at this time.
If you ever experience a problem during a rotation, notify Stacy Fender
at 269-4469. You may leave a message or call during normal business hours.
Be sure to note which unit you were on.
Bad Weather?
Monthly meetings and clinical rotations may be cancelled due to bad
weather. All Cox Medical Explorer activities will be cancelled when
Springfield Public Schools are cancelled due to poor weather. Please tune
into KY3 television or KTTS radio after 3 p.m. if you have questions about
cancellations due to the weather.
