Students ages 16 to 20 from southwest Missouri who are interested in
learning about health care careers are eligible to join Cox Medical
Explorers. Members are required to attend monthly membership meetings in
order to be eligible to sign up for shadow clinical rotations at Cox
North, Cox South and Cox Walnut Lawn. Rotations are available in a variety
of clinical areas including Child Life, Pediatrics, Urgent Care and
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Students are required to complete one
rotation per month, but may sign up for additional rotations.
Students ages 14 to 20 are eligible to join Cox Teen Volunteers. Dual
membership is allowed. For more information on Teen Volunteers, please

When and Where?
New members are ONLY accepted at the October and May membership
meetings. Explorers are required to attend monthly business meetings held
on the first Thursday of months Sept. - May (except in January). Meetings are
conducted by Medical Explorer officers, and feature a variety of health
care professionals as guest speakers. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are
held in Hulston Cancer Center (corner of Bradford and National) fourth
floor meeting rooms.
How?
To become a new member, submit one letter of reference and a copy of
your most current grade card (C+ average is required), along with the
start-up fee,* and attend the monthly meetings. A $3 monthly due is
required for all members (paid on a monthly basis). All fees must be paid
prior to participation in clinical rotations.
Bad Weather?
Monthly meetings and clinical rotations may be cancelled due to bad
weather. All Cox Medical Explorer activities will be cancelled when
Springfield Public Schools are cancelled due to poor weather. Please tune
into KY3 television or KTTS radio after 3 p.m. if you have questions about
cancellations due to the weather.
* New members pay $27 to cover the annual
registration fee to Boy Scouts of America, uniform, name tag, time card,
activity fee and dues for the first month.
