Volunteer Services and Auxiliary Membership
Wonderful things happens when a group of community-minded individuals
work together toward the common goal of helping others. The awards for
Outstanding Auxiliary for Large Hospitals, Philanthropic Organization
of the Year and the Extraordinary Hospital Award were presented to Cox
Health Systems Auxiliary in recognition of their contributions to the
hospital and their dedication to this goal.
Last year, our volunteers provided countless hours of service to employees,
patients and visitors within Cox Health Systems. For example, our dedicated
volunteers:
- staffed 11 information desks
- delivered 30,000 floral arrangements
- staffed the three Auxiliary gift shops, the gift shop kiosk and the
coffee shop
- served the patient units
- presented the First Foto program to more than 2,300 new mothers
- staffed the canteen at three blood drives
- assembled countless packets and patient charts, and stuffed thousands
of envelopes
- escorted hundreds of patients and gave directions to thousands of
visitors.
Funds raised from the gift shops, coffee shop, First Foto, book sales,
gourmet coffee bar, memberships, memorials, donations and quilt raffles
were given back to Cox Health Systems to fund worthwhile programs and
to buy state-of-the-art equipment. For example, money was designated for:
- the Breast Care Clinic ($160,000)
- the Childrens Miracle Networks
Child Life Program, the C.A.R.E. Mobile and Shaken Baby Syndrome
Education Program ($72,000)
- car seats for all newborns at Cox ($42,000)
- three nursing scholarships ($31,000)
- the Good Samaritan Fund in the Emergency department, Books for Babies
Program, Chaplains Discretionary Fund, the Pediatric Unit, the Ronald
McDonald House and the new garden at Cox Walnut Lawn.
Although these Auxiliary programs and activities provide funding for
life-saving technology in the hospitals, the most important contribution
volunteers make is the personal touch the warm, caring, helpful hand
that these individuals offer to our patients and their families on a daily
basis.
