The Field of Radiologic Technology
Radiologic technology is a dynamic career that is constantly changing with technological advancements. A radiographer is a medical professional specially
trained in the use of X-ray and other energies to produce
diagnostic images of human structures. Imaging procedures and accompanying responsibililties assigned to a radiographer are under the direction of physicians qualified to request and/or perform the radiologic procedures.

The School of Radiologic Technology
CoxHealth has had an accredited school of radiologic technology since 1954 and has continually strived for educational, clinical and professional excellence.

The School of Radiologic Technology is accredited by the JRCERT (Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology).

The mission of CoxHealth School of Radiologic Technology is to produce professional, competent radiographers. The school's faculty strives to instill in graduates high standards of education, clinical training and patient care as well as personal and professional pride. Our commitment is to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the challenges of their careers.

Admission Requirements top
CoxHealth School of Radiologic Technology is open to all people 18 years of age and older, regardless of race, sex, religion, disability or national origin. Applicants must be physically capable of performing all job requirements of a registered radiographer. The minimum application requirements are listed below.

A non-refundable $30 application fee must accompany all applications.

High School Transcripts
An official copy of high school transcripts or GED must be sent to the school office.

College Transcripts
An official copy of college transcripts documenting the completion of prerequisite courses must be sent to the school office.

The following college courses must be completed prior to enrollment:

  • General Zoology or Introductory Biology
  • Human Anatomy (with lab)
  • Human Physiology (with lab)
  • Introduction to Computer Science
  • English Composition
  • College Algebra
  • Introductory Psychology
  • Introductory Physics and/or Introductory Chemistry

The prerequisite courses are all offered through Southwest Missouri State University, but may be taken at another similarly-accredited college or university.


Bachelor Degree Program top
In 1979, Southwest Missouri State University, in cooperation with the School of Radiologic Technology, began to offer a baccalaureate degree program in radiologic technology. This program was designed to upgrade the educational opportunities available to people interested in radiology and those already involved in radiology as a career.

Graduates of the School of Radiologic Technology are awarded 42 credit hours towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiography. Candidates may choose options in Management, Science or Education.
