Every day we are about helping people maximize their own potential. At
Burrell we provide behavioral health services to children,
adolescents and families, as well as to adults
and seniors. We are pleased to be able serve
more than 28,600 individuals and families every year.
A recent recipient of the Community Provider National Award of
Excellence from the National Council of Community Behavioral Healthcare,
Burrell continues to strive for excellence in behavioral health services.
The award is given to an organization within the United States that has
demonstrated excellence in consumer-centered care, use of creative service
options, community-based coordinated system of care and cost-effective
care. Having previously received this award for "Childrens
Services Continuum of Care" and for "Lifetime Achievement,"
Burrell is the only organization ever to be recognized with three of the
National Councils Excellence Awards. The National Council has a
membership of over 1,000 organizations.
Burrell Behavioral Health is a comprehensive system of care that
increases all clients chances of fully participating in their
communities, enjoying the support of their families and friends and
remaining vocationally and socially active. To increase awareness of
mental health issues and to enhance accessibility of services, Burrell
continues to develop partnerships within the communitys network of
health and human services. Screening, counseling, psychiatric
consultation, case management and training are being provided in over 37
community agencies in Burrells seven county primary service area. In
addition, Burrell clinical staff have been placed into eight medical
clinics to better integrate health and behavioral health services. Our
hospital-based psychological services department provides consultation and
collaborative services to numerous hospital departments such as cardiac
rehab, diabetes, cancer and oncology.
Burrell has long been committed to action-oriented research, and since
1996, has supported a full-time research department that evaluates our
services on an ongoing basis. These evaluations examine consumer
satisfaction with services, changes in client symptoms and functioning,
patterns of service use and employee satisfaction, among other important
issues. In addition, Burrells research activities have focused on the
needs of the aging population, the relationship of the brains
electrophysiology to depression after stroke, and the impact of chronic
disease self-management programs on patient functioning and quality of
life. The research initiatives undertaken at Burrell, many of which have
resulted in published articles or national presentations, have been
invaluable in securing many of our current grant-funded programs. Most
contemporary granting authorities require of their grantees a significant
capacity to conduct and use outcomes research. Burrell has built the
infrastructure to do such work. Burrell has also made significant
commitments and established much value in the area of professional and
community education. For example, we routinely offer to the community
classes for divorcing parents (designed to help lessen the impact of the
breakup on children), for those suffering from grief and loss, and for
those who wish to improve their assertiveness or emotional intelligence,
among many others. As a continuing education sponsor approved by the
American Psychological Association, we also maintain offerings designed to
enhance and expand behavioral health providers knowledge and skills.
Additionally, Burrell maintains a post-doctoral training program aimed at
fulfilling the licensure requirements for Missouri psychologists.
We are located at 1300 Bradford Parkway, near Cox South. Services are
also offered through locations and satellite offices throughout
Springfield and in the surrounding counties.
